An early morning crash claimed the lives of two Woodville men


The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 69, just south of Recreational Road 255, that occurred today, October 16th.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 5 a.m., a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north, while a Chevrolet Spark was traveling south. It is reported that the driver of the Silverado crossed over into the oncoming lane and struck the Spark head-on.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as 61-year-old Don Houston of Lufkin, was transported to Woodland Heights for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Spark were pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace. The driver is identified as 46-year-old Marlon McDaniel, and his passenger is identified as 45-year-old Hollis McDaniel, both of Woodville. The relationship between the two men is not yet known.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
