Chief’s Report
Jasper County Chief Deputy Scott Duncan
We are starting the week in the upper 60s and it sure was nice to sip coffee in the cool weather this morning! A few days of rain last week is helping saturate the ground and bring cooler temperatures.
We had over 445 calls for service go through our dispatch center this past week. The fire calls have slowed down a little, but there is still a burn ban at this time.
Deputies responded to a deceased person's call on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, and upon arrival found a heavily decomposed body outside the home. It was confirmed that the deceased was the homeowner, an elderly man. The cause of death is pending autopsy results; however, no foul play is suspected at this time. Check on your family and friends often, especially ones who live alone and are getting older.
Deputies are continuing to make frequent contacts throughout the county, resulting in arrests for illegal narcotics and also building rapport with community members in need of services. It does not always take a crime being committed for us to be able to help or refer someone to the proper services.
Our Investigators testified at a grand jury this week where District Attorney Anne Pickle had over 70 cases on the docket. We sure appreciate her office and all they do to prosecute our cases.
We held our annual BBQ Cookoff and Car show to benefit the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Association which supplies our Blue Santa and Scholarship Programs every year. We saw some fancy cars and ate
some of the best BBQ money can buy! Congratulations to all the winners of the car show and cookoff.
We appreciate everyone who donated, and attended, and especially a shout out to our dispatchers who work countless hours to plan and put on this huge event. We raised approximately $8500.00 from this event
and all the proceeds will go back to supporting the children of Jasper County.
We have 140 in our jail this morning.
We are looking forward to another wonderful week in Jasper County, if you need us, call us!
