Concerns from Tyler County Judge Milton Powers

Updated: Jul 8

Dear Citizens of Tyler County,

As your County Judge, it is my duty to ensure the well-being and prosperity of our great county. I am writing to you today to express my deep concern regarding the US 69 Woodville- Colmesneil relief route proposed by TxDot. The two routes that have been suggested by TxDot will have a significant and detrimental impact on the economy and the citizens of Tyler County.

These proposed routes will unfortunately take several homes and businesses from our constituents in which is unnecessary. This will not only affect the local businesses of Tyler County but also the quality of life for our residents. On the other hand, the route suggested by our County Commissioners will keep the US 69 relief route closer to the existing railroad already owned by TxDot minimizing the impact on our community.

I urge you all to let your voices be heard and please stand with us and reject TxDot's proposed routes. If we do not stand up for our community's interests, we risk seeing our economy suffer and our way of life changed forever. TxDot's proposed routes would require them to take 400 feet of right-of-way throughout our county, which is inconsistent with the highway projects and expansions that surround us. In contrast, our commissioners suggested route would only take 240 feet of right-of-way, which is a much more reasonable and acceptable solution.

I would like to remind you that TxDot already owns 200 feet of right-of-way in more than 72% of our county and 100 to 150 feet in the remaining areas. It is my strong recommendation that we work with them to find a solution that meets their needs while also protecting our community's interests.

I urge you all to join me in speaking out against TxDot's proposed routes and support the county commissioners' suggested route. Together, we can protect our community and ensure its prosperity for generations to come.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Milton Powers

Tyler County Judge
