Deceased July 22nd, 2024

Jane Worthy, 87, currently residing in Beaumont and formerly of Village Mills, Texas, passed from this life to go be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 22nd, 2024, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. She so looked forward to this day, when she would be reunited with the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Ben Worthy, who left this world 13 years earlier to go make a place for her in Heaven.

Jane was born on November 11th, 1936 to Elbert Ameul and Clara Mae Droddy Stephens in Camden, Texas. A longtime resident of Warren and Wildwood, Texas, she was currently residing at Brookdale Dowlen Oaks Senior Living Center. She was the retired office manager for Dr. Curtis Garner in Woodville, Texas, where she had worked for many years prior to her retirement. Jane was a former member of the Wildwood Baptist Church, where she served as the church treasurer and was often asked to perform the special music on Sunday mornings. She was an avid reader and had bookshelves full of books she had read over the years, having given away many boxes as she no longer had space and needed to make room for new books to read! Jane also enjoyed traveling and spent many trips enjoying the time exploring the many beautiful places her God had created. When she wasn’t traveling with her husband or reading a book, she enjoyed painting shirts for her family, and cooking, especially trying new recipes to share with her friends and family. She loved to gather with her friends to play games but especially enjoyed time with her family when they would come to visit.

Jane was an active member in her community, always helping with the school activities of her children, assisting her husband Ben, for many years behind the scenes with the Tyler County Western Weekend, the Tyler County Dogwood Festival and the Tyler County Fair. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Warren.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Ameul and Clara Mae Droddy Stephens, her husband Ben Worthy, and his parents E. Jay and Octavia Ransom Worthy. Sisters Cora Wilkerson and Ethel Bell and brothers Paul Stephens and Marion Stephens. Brothers-in-law Roy Jay, Claude, Cecil and Edward Worthy. Also her son-in-law John Deggs.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Laura Deggs of Groves; three sons, Bruce Worthy and his wife Stacie of Beaumont, Wade Worthy and his wife Gina of Fredericksburg, and Brad Worthy and his wife Deris of Tomball. Eight grandchildren; Dana Howard, Allison Costa, Wesley Deggs, Heather Chisholm, Ashley Bundick, Jay Worthy, Joshua Gibson and Jayson Worthy, and sixteen great and step great grandchildren. Additional survivors include sister-in-law Naomi Stephens of Longview, Faye Worthy Prothro and husband Charles, and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
