LaVern Hatton March 21, 1938 - June 14, 2024 Obituary

LaVern Hatton, 86, of Warren passed away Friday, June 14, 2024 at The Orchard in Woodville, Texas.


Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 beginning 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Warren.


Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Warren, with Dr. David Mahfouz officiating. Burial will follow at Swearingen Cemetery in Warren. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Langton, Jerred Wallace, Michael Foxworth, Brad Whatley, Kenneth Foxworth and Chris Haygood. The deacons of First Baptist Church, Warren and Grady B. Hatton will serve as honorary pallbearers.


LaVern was born March 21, 1938 to Fred and Novelle Maxine Holomon Platt in Colmesneil (Dies Community), Texas. She was a native of Woodville, and a 1956 graduate of Old Kirby High School in Woodville. LaVern was a longtime resident of Warren and retired as a payroll manager, after over 25 years with Warren ISD. While at Warren ISD, she started Christians in Action. LaVern was a member of the First Baptist Church in Warren where she taught bible study for 48 years, and was a former member of the choir. She enjoyed hosting Sunday School parties, cooking, and family get togethers. She often said, “Well, Golly.”


She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Novelle Platt; husband of 66 years, Harold D. Hatton; sister, Carolyn Collier and husband Malcolm; sister-in-law, Linda Wiant; son-in-law, Johnny Langton; sister-in-law, Marilyn Whatley; aunt, Nelva Barlow and husband Aubrey; and niece and nephew, Marilyn Sue Whatley and Perry “Scooter” Wiant.


She is survived by her son, Clint Hatton and wife Judy of Village Mills; daughter, Dawn Foxworth and husband Kenneth of Warren; grandchildren, Jessica Haygood, Jonathan Langton, Jennifer Langton, Jerred Wallace, Heather Hatton, and Michael Foxworth; great grandchildren, Fiona, Carlee, Makenna, Judson, Dacre, and Elizabeth; nieces and nephew, Kim Nagypal and husband Bela, Tamala Bohannon, and Brad Whatley and wife Suzanne.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
