Tyler County Emergency Management gives an overview of the flooding situation at this time

This morning's storms were reminiscent of those our area experienced just a few short weeks ago and according to Tyler County Emergency Management Coordinator John Settlocker, for Tyler County, the storms were almost as bad especially for the community of Ivanhoe.

There was widespread flooding in the Ivanhoe community early on when the levey overflowed. Homes were flooded and people had to be rescued. At 6 pm Monday, Settlocker said that Hwy 69 at Ivanhoe was clear and open as are all major roads in the county.

Settlocker said that from what he knows of, they conducted two high water rescues. The first was an older man out on Hwy 69 and the second one was on FM 1943 towards Spurger. This time, 5 adults and two children had to be rescued.

As shown in our two previous articles, the rivers are full. The ground is completely saturated. From Fox Landing to Barlow will peak late Wednesday to early Thursday. The gates at Dam-B are open so more water is coming.

For those who have sustained damages, Catholic Charities will be at the Emergency Management office located at 201 Veterans Way on May 6th from 10-4 for assistance.

Also DETCOG is accepting applications for assistance for those who have suffered damages on both floods. Applicants are asked to use the information on the link below to apply.
